World of Warcraft is a reference MMORPG that was released back in November 2004, but nevertheless it is one of the most relevant multiplayer games of today.
The game takes place in the Warcraft universe, playing on the stories of characters familiar to fans of fantasy strategies from Blizzard. Each expansion, as a separate chapter or even a volume, offers the player a ton of plot text, dozens of fresh personalities and kilometers of open world.
By 2018, seven global add-ons had been released: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), Legion (2016) and Battle for Azeroth (2018). Each of them contributed to the main narrative regarding the confrontation between the Alliance and the Horde: players were thrown into the past, snowed in Northrend. They even managed to relax in Pandaria, where they managed to fight with local kung fu pandas.
A beginner, not familiar with local place names, will be able to clarify all questions, going from the plot of good old Vanilla in 2004 – a classic game without add-ons – and ending with the story of the main battle of the Blues and Reds for Azeroth, told in the last add-on. But this will require not only time – the most interesting text of the main and additional quests there really for several gigabytes – but also money for a monthly subscription.
World of Warcraft is not shareware: the player only has a demo mode that allows you to create a character and pump it to level 20 – then you will need to pay for a monthly subscription.
The subscription, by the way, is not taken for an excellent plot: the game offers an extensive system of multiplayer modes. There is a cooperative: joint passage of dungeons, completing quests, raids on bosses. There is multiplayer: arenas of different sizes, battlegrounds, raids on entire servers, clanwar. In this case, the player chooses the pool of modes at the beginning, when he joins one of the available servers – they are divided into PvE and PvP: the first is measured and calm, the second is fast and meaty.
You need to try WoW carefully, because the risk of getting into a rage and leaving the boss at work without an employee, a wife without a husband, and children without food is great. The game is addictive with a sophisticated and highly motivated grind, an excellent storyline and cool PvE and PvP modes. A working classic that deserves life for years to come.
